At the Miyazaki talk last week I met up with an Australian girl called Athena. She lives in Tokyo and has done so for several years now but anyway; she invited me to come to Mt. Takao with her, her fiancé and 2 of their friends.
Takaosan (aka Mt. Takao) is a densely wooded mountain area which is actually still within metropolitan Tokyo. Autumn has come and just like all the Japanese spend their weekends under the cherry trees in spring, in the fall they all head out to see the autumn colours. There is especially one type of tree (momiji) that colours beautifully. So the 5 of us and the rest of Tokyo all headed to Takaosan.
Athena and her fiancé Shinichi are quite fervent hikers so instead of taking the cable car up half way, we hiked. This was the easy route said Athena. Well, Kaori and I didn't quite agree with the 'easiness' of this trail, but despite a lot of huffing and puffing and taking off many layers of clothes we had put on to keep warm on the cold wintery day we made it to the cable-car stop. From there it was just a few flights of stairs up to the top.
We had brought a picknick (I made Japanese style Spanish frittatas) and the next challenge was to find a spot to sit amongst all the other Japanese there... Picknick was very yummy and going down the hill was a lot less tiring than going up!
After having a good rest after getting home I woke up with muscle ache - but refreshed - on sunday. In the afternoon I went to pick up Michiel from the station (he is a Dutch friend currently studying in Fukuoka). We went to Shibuya for dinner with Peter, Chris, Yukari and co. Around 11pm we went to meet some more friends of Peter's before taking the bus to ... ageHa~~~~
AgeHa is one of the best clubs in Tokyo and can accomodate some 3000 party-goers, and they sure made sure they were there sunday night - to see Armin van Buuren of course! The short story behind this is that Peter and I got Armin to be part of the Holland/Japan year celebration which landed us free tickets, har har. Anyway, ageHa is seriously an amazing club, with several differently themed areas, including an outside bar with a pool to dance around (but you're not supposed to fall into it!). Armin started at 3am and by 5am I thought he'd be rounding off and I was getting a little tired, partying the night away like that. The man played until 6:30 am!!!! He played a 3,5 hour set, crrrazy! It was incredibly awesome though. The whole experience was amazing.
We got back around 8 am and whereas Michiel crashed and didn't wake up for another day or so, I had to go to work. Crazy, but true!
Tomorrow I'll tell you about the rest of my week with Michiel staying here and why I'll never be a diplomat.
Love!
