Pre-weekend update

Hello again!!

How is everyone doing? Things are alright over here! The rainy season really is on our doorstep now, it's warm (doesn't really go below 25 degrees C) and sticky. Not a lot of rain, so far, but I hear it's coming. *sigh*. Anyway, have had a semi-interesting week. Well, actually quite a bit more interesting than last week I think ;) Last week was my long holiday, which I mostly spent on homework. Then wednesday Krisje came to Nagasaki and a whole bunch of us went over to Sachi's (baard/biado) because it would be Maarten's birthday on thursday, so we could celebrate at midnight. It sort of has become a little tradition among us I guess. Anyway, I baked Maarten banana cake! I took it to Sachi's and at midnight they brought out the cake together with the candles I had brought along. It was so fun! And the cake turned out quite good too, if I may say so. But I think probably the biggest news of the evening was Yoriko's. While we were eating cake she came in with a picture of an ultra-sound, and really only Maarten grasped immediately what was going on: Yoriko was pregnant again! Nono is going to be a mummy!!! (NOT a big sister, a mummy ;) ) How incredibly awesome is that!!

Thursday was Maarten's birthday, so he held a party at shirotoppo, the student izakaya near the university. We were going out to dinner with a few of us before hand, and I thought I'd try a hand at walking down there with my heels on. Big mistake! I hadn't even gotten to the university yet before I had blisters all over the place. I wasn't wearing socks you see, and I really should have I guess!! Anyway, met Gerrie on the way, could ride his bike thank goodness. After dinner a few people went home to change, and luckily Mariko was prepared to get me a pair of socks and a pair of trainers to walk home in ;) But we're not that far yet.

The party turned out really fun! I started off drinking my usual umeshuum, but half way I switched to Nihonshuu, which is real sake. I had never really drank it before, but I got used to it, and it was fun drinking and toasting with my friend Nana. He doesn't really speak english, but he kept asking me: are you ok? Because I'm a girl, how can I possibly drink more than 2 (MINIATURE) glasses of the stuff. Anyway, after a few of these are you ok, yes I'm okay, are you? yes me too moments, he finally fell over. I guess he wasn't so okay! Haha. Some people took advantage of the moment to decorate him a little :) The evening was coming to an end however and we managed to wake him up, get his shoes on and he stumbled down the stairs. He had left his wallet and phone, so I went on down, only to find him asleep on the street haha. So I woke him up again, and as I had gotten him up, I walked him home, he lives on the way anyway. It was very amusing, if I may say so. Poor guy doesn't remember a thing however ;) Maybe it's for the best. Now not the whole evening was like this of course, but I just wanted to share this moment hehe. Maybe it's a little bit you had to be there moment.

Friday was spent working very very hard on my report, which we have to hand in tuesday. 2000-3000 characters, so yes, in Japanese. I'm doing it about taiko. I'm going to be working on it again today as well, and later I'm off with Yamashita-san from taiko on a tour of nagasaki, and then hopefully making it to my friend's concert (Kento is playing again, this time in a bigger venue, opening for some pro bands, how cool is that!). Tomorrow is a regular taiko day again, and then the weekend will be over :(

One very last thing, somethiing really sad. My highschool in Holland is gone :( They tore it down. Not like I want to go back there, but these sort of things are supposed to happen when you're old, and you can be all nostalgic about it right? Now it's only 4 years ago or so? It gave me a bit of a funny feeling inside to see the school like this haha. With thanks to my mummy for the pictures!!

Alright, I'm going to leave it at this. Good day!

Jenn
